Since graduating from Central Saint Martins in 2007 with a BA in graphic design I have worked on various commissioned pieces, working with clients such as The Ecologist magazine illustrating articles in the wisdom feature, and designing a website for fair trade fashion designer Lucy Tammam. I specialise in illustration but also cross over into design working on websites and
exploring engaging concepts. I have exhibited my work In a range of places from Urban Outfitters in Stockholm to the Old Custord factory in Birmingham.
Within my personal practice I am currently working on a self initiated project called ‘Head Gardner’ applying my illustration to a different medium other than print or paper based image making. The project involves recycling plastic milk bottles into plant heads. The project takes on the guerilla gardening concept of beautifying neglected or unwelcoming public space through gardening and growing plants, making it a more inviting environment to be in, as well as attracting a healthier
biodiversity. I want to start working a lot more with public space and going beyond the paper format of illustration and design.
I believe it is important to not get consumed by one environment and to take on a more hollistic perspective. Many different things inspire what I do and direct where I want to go. I have attended a
geodesic dome and straw bale building course, and am inspired by innovative sustainable
architecture and design.
I have recently come back from Sweden where I lived for a month with my friend in the wilderness making shelters, bows and arrows, wood carving, living off the land and learning about its flora and fauna. I volunteered for a month at ecological farms where I learnt about bee keeping,
permaculture and how to play the harmonica for the horses. For the first time I could hear myself breathe.
I have a foot rooted in both worlds, one in the wilderness and one in the urban jungle, my ultimate aim is to unite them in my creative practices to benefit both society and environment .
